Sore throat causes,ayurveda remedies,treatment,therapies

 A sore throat is caused by irritation and inflammation of throat .It makes swallowing difficult and painful .IN Ayurveda sore throat occurs due to imbalance of Pittha and kapha dosha in throat region


Causes for SORE throat 

Infections- Viral infection like measles,chicken pox,common cold,influenza ,mumps.

DRy air- It removes moisture from nasal and oral cavity making it to feel dry and scratchy .This usually occurs in winter season

Cigarettes ,tobacco ,smoke ,air pollution ,chemicals and other substances in environment cause irritation in throat 

Straining vocal cord and muscle in the throat due to talking ,loudly yelling or singing for long time

Allergy -Allergen like pollen ,grass and pet cause release of chemicals resulting throat irritation 

GERD- 

TUMOR,cyst or follicle in throat 


Signs and symptoms of sore throat based on dosha:


DUE to pitta

  • Redness 
  • Burning sensation 
  • Tenderness 
pain


DUE to kapha

  • itching
  • swelling
  • whitish patches over tonsils 
Hoarseness of voice 


OTHER symptoms -anorexia,fever,nasal congestion ,running nose,headache,chills,sneezing,cough ,body ache


Treatment 

GARGLE-  1 CUP of hot water with 1/2 tsp of turmeric and 1/2 tsp of salt mixed...Gargle for 4-5 times a day

Take 1 tsp of triphala choornam in 2 cups of water .boil for 5 minutes .Luke warm water can b used for gargle or hold inside the mouth 

Drinking juice of ginger with honey is used to loosen phlegm of throat


STEAM inhalation -Steam inhaled will soothe the air ways ,reduce infection ,loosens phlegm in throat

SOOTHING HERBAL TEA:

GINGER 2 PARTS

Cinnamon 2 PARTS

Liquorice 3 PARTS

Steep 1 tsp of herbal mixture in water for 5-10 minutes and drink upto 3 times a day


FOOD to avoid

Avoid diary products such as cheese,yoghurt and ice cream.Also avoid fermented foods
